STRESS MANAGEMENT ARTICLE
Era Banner Publication     May 2007

What is stress? Do you have a day without it? This is a dangerous topic!

Stress, tension, worry, anxiety – they are powerful words that conjure up all kinds of images and prejudices in our minds. People who suffer from these challenges find it hard to cope with life. We do though.

We think we know and can ‘handle or cope’ with stress in our lives. However, stress is an insidious and devastating condition that attacks both our physical and mental well-being. Sometimes these stresses are undetectable and build to a point of explosion without warning. Chronic stress will manifest itself as physical disease leading to illnesses such as hypertension, heart disease, stroke and digestive failure. The problem with stress is that is silent. A person may not recognize the psychological effects until it is too late. The effects of stress become debilitating and often life threatening if not treated in a manner that suits each person’s life circumstances.

Stress is part of everyday life. Anxiety, panic and disease are not. Stress does not need to be an inevitable consequence of daily life. It depends a lot on people’s perceptions of each situation and their ability to cope with it. The stress response inside us is therefore part instinct and part to do with the way we think.

Using Hypnosis to Manage STRESS:

Hypnosis allows a person to develop a clearer perspective and then encourage them to work to maintain a balance and motivation with a sense of perspective despite any obstacles that might be in your way. Hypnosis allows an optimistic and realistic thinking process. People learn practical life skills that will change the “I can’t” into the “I can” or “I will” way of thinking. The trance process enables each person to take responsibility and become accountable to themselves and their new positive thinking to face situations without difficulties. Using Hypnosis allows a person to do things that they were unable to do before or stop doing the things they do not want to do anymore. The techniques learned through hypnosis are easy to apply and every effective to reduce both the physical and mental effects of tension, stress, worry and anxiety. The benefits of hypnosis allow a person to eliminate the undesirable behaviour and create positive and constructive behaviour for use for a lifetime of confidence, self-esteem and success.

ADDICTIONS: ALCOHOL, DRUGS, SMOKING
Era Banner Publication June 2007

Addiction is a chronic disorder supposed to have been created by a combination of genetic, biological and environment/social factors. Addiction is characterized by the repeated use of a substance(s) and repeated destructive behaviours despite clear evidence that continued use/routines will cause certain illness and become detrimental to the person’s quality of life.

Not all doctors agree on what addiction or dependency is. Traditionally, addiction has been defined as being possible only to a psychoactive substance (for example alcohol, tobacco, or drugs), which is ingested, crosses the blood-brain barrier, and alters the natural chemical behavior of the brain temporarily. Many people, both psychology professionals and laypersons, now feel that we need to recognize psychological dependency on things such as gambling, food, sex, pornography, computers, work, exercise, self-destruction, and spending money.

How Well Does Hypnosis work? A Comparison Study:
Psychoanalysis:      38% recovery after 600 sessions
Behavior Therapy: 72% recovery after 22 sessions
Hypnotherapy: 93% recovery after 6 sessions
- American Health Magazine
A vast majority of people with addictions or addictive tendencies are able to cope well in their everyday settings. However, even the most conscious efforts to overcome their addictions fail because of the negative thinking that keeps them trapped in their destructive behaviours. Hypnotherapy is the means to releasing the negative thinking patterns, or that self-talk so as to allow positive and supportive thought processes to be instilled which will reinforce their desire to ‘kick the habit’ of their addiction. Not only does the person’s thinking change, the way they feel about themselves, their situations and their success changes to ensure that their physical and mental stamina is balanced and in sync with their decisions to become free of whatever has been holding them back.
